Enforcement Measures Launched to Regulate and Oversee the Money Exchange and Remittance Market
The Central Bank of Syria, in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Interior has launched the second phase of enforcement measures to regulate and oversee the money exchange and remittance market, following the completion of the first phase, which involved issuing formal warnings.
Inspection campaigns have resulted in the apprehension of a number of individuals who failed to comply with the warnings issued to them and continued to conduct money exchange and remittance activities without a license, without regularizing their status in accordance with the applicable legal requirements.
Legal action has been taken against the violators, including their arrest, the preparation of official violation reports, and the seizure of the funds found in their possession that were intended for the unlawful conduct of these activities. The necessary investigations are being completed in accordance with due process, in preparation for referring the violators to the competent judicial authorities for the appropriate legal action.
The Central Bank of Syria reaffirms its commitment to continuing enforcement and inspection measures, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, to regulate and oversee money exchange and remittance activities and to take action, in accordance with applicable legislation, against anyone conducting such activities without the required license.
The Central Bank calls on all operators engaged in these activities to comply immediately with the applicable laws and regulatory requirements and to refrain from conducting any unlicensed activities, which may result in legal accountability and penalties under the applicable legislation.
